The "Secret Smile": designing for all body types.
For those of you reading this who have not met me (yet) my name is Rebecca or Becki and I am the creator/designer/owner/accountant/toilet cleaner…… of Eva Joyce Bridal. I want to talk about my design process and how I came up with my signature neck line.
I have spent my whole life struggling to find clothing to suit my body type. My main concern is that I have always had a large bust. This usually means that clothing that has good support is often too revealing and clothing that covers a bit more is not supportive and then leads to a lot of awkward moments explaining that no I am not pregnant. (There was one time at Harrogate Bridal Week where I just let a lady go on thinking I was just because she made such a big deal out of it and I was more concerned about embarrassing her.)
Anyway when it came time to sit down and start the design process on my first dress I knew this was where I was going to start. I have been working in bridal for years and I know all the typical neckline shapes.
Although each neckline is beautiful and could be perfect for many brides I felt there was something missing.
Thus the “Secret Smile” was born. I knew I wanted to create something that would give support whilst being flattering. I looked at what items of clothing I felt most comfortable and supported in and that was easily my sports bras. I know this might seem strange to go from sports bra to wedding dress but this is exactly where it started for me.
The line across the top of the bust needed to be smooth and elongated enough to reveal a hint of cleavage. Thus giving just enough away, while the edges curve up to meet the strap line high enough to minimalize that small area near the armpit that can cause self-consciousness.
There are so many different neck lines to choose from but don’t worry that is what your styling appointment is for. To find out which neckline you feel reflects your personal bridal style. To see some more examples of the different necklines we carry click here or follow us on social media.
